Just started F.E.A.R. 3 (or F3AR in their marketing 1337 speak), and I must say, the campaign is INTENSE. And that is just the first mission.
I love, love, LOVE how the enemies communicate with each other. They yell out "Eyes on Target!", "Displace Him!", and curse when I shoot them but don't kill them. It is such a nice touch. It adds such an awesome level of immersion and intensity to the fights. So many times in shooters, even "military" ones, the enemies just yell out basic tactics, or nothing at all, and are usually completely silent as I blast them in the face.
The enemies are tough too. I tried a mix of bum-rush tactics and hide-and-seek, and most of the time rushing in was met with swift death. The times that I actually made it out of the firefights alive were exhilarating. Utilizing cover is typically more successful, though less heart pumping.
The shooting controls are tight, and I feel quite nimble on my feet as I zoom in and out of cover. However, the cover mechanics are a little bit of a hodgepodge of Gears of War mixed with typical 1st-Person Shooters, and they don't quite work as fluidly as I would like, but it is a minor gripe.
I look forward to continuing the rest of the campaign and I hope it remains just as intense throughout.
